Visual artist Kati Immonen | Represented by Helsinki Contemporary

katimariaimmonen@gmail.com         follow on Instagram: @katiimmonen

Kati Immonen is reinventing watercolour painting as a medium for contemporary art. Immonen recognizes the cultural baggage carried by her medium, the watercolour, as being something light, effortless and superficial, and turns this to her own benefit. She has a powerful way of expressing ideas and stories using highly charged subject matter, such as war and ecological problems. In her more recent work the fairy-tale-like imagery holds a dark humour and irony in hidden pictorial references or handwritten texts.

The large-scale exhibition project 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 is aimed at an artistic understanding of the changes taking place in the planet’s ecosystem, as well as the role of man in these processes.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 showcases projects by Russian and international contemporary artists, whose bodies of work explore various forms of the earthly world order, visualize the flow of endless planetary transformations, and search for ethical roots of human activity in the universe.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 is realised by the Tretyakov Gallery together with the Polytechnic Museum and the Triumph Gallery in the West Wing of the New Tretyakov Gallery, and runs through October 10.
